The Sail Loft

The Sail Loft in Portsoy is a group of restored maritime buildings overlooking the beach and out to sea. The quality conversion of the former sail loft buildings and cottages was undertaken by the North East Scotland Preservation Trust and retains their original charm while offering modern, luxurious comforts and the highest standard fixtures and fittings. With it’s lovely pale wooden floors, clean pale colours, cute windows looking out to sea, the Sail Loft is going to be possibly the best of its type that you will ever experience.

The staff at the Sail Loft provide a warm welcome and will help you have a pleasant stay. Their knowledge of the area can guide you to places you might want to visit or leave you to just relax on site, which many do as this is such a fantastic location with wonderful views.

The Sail Loft opened at the beginning of 2017 and is open all year round. The bunkhouse sleeps 25 guests across a number of rooms including bunk dorms, twin and family rooms.

The mattresses are the same quality that you’ll find at Scotland’s fine Gleneagles Hotel, supplied by Glencraft in Aberdeen. The walls are all well insulated so you will not be disturbed by outside noise. There are separate, modern male and female toilets and showers with lots of hot water are close to the bedrooms.

Children are welcome and those under three years stay for free, with cot beds and baby alarms also available. Dogs are also welcome when booked in advance.

There is a modern open-plan communal kitchen and dining area which is fully equipped with hobs, microwaves, fridges and lots of work surfaces, plus pots, pans, crockery and cutlery.

The lounge with a woodburner is a cosy place to sit and read or work. There is Wi-Fi across the property and plenty of power points to meet all needs, even when fully booked. There is also a drying room, launderette, secure cycle storage and a cycle wash down area.

Garden and wood-fired hot tub

You can relax in a beautiful walled garden where you can enjoy a barbeque. There is a decked area by the kitchen and you can relax in the outdoor wood-fired hot tub at any time of the year. Book the hot tub at reception and the staff will have it ready for you, though jump in on time as it does get hot!

If you are looking for a quiet peaceful seaside escape where you can completely switch off, relax and recharge away from any hustle and bustle this is the place, though it is only a short walk to one of the pubs, cafes and restaurants in Portsoy if you want to venture out to experience the strong community spirit in the town and the sense of history around every corner with the lovely old harbour, stop for a malt at The Shore Inn or a bite to eat at the Beggars Belief cafe.
